Frequently Asked Questions

CHILD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

How much does it cost to sponsor a child and how is the money used?

It costs $35 for all children from Pre-school through 10th, unless children in 8th through 10th are in boarding school in which case the monthly amount will be $75. All students in 11th - 13th grades, which are the last three years of high school and include rigorous college prep classes, are required to board at secondary school and the monthly amount for those students will be $75 per month.

What is my time commitment for sponsoring a child?

Your sponsorship is active as long as the child is in school. Uganda has two school levels – a primary school (very similar to USA grade school levels) and a secondary school (very similar to USA high school). You do not need to renew your sponsorship each year. Your sponsorship will continue as long as you provide the monthly financial support. We pray this sponsorship lasts for many years. We do understand that circumstances change but ask if you anticipate terminating sponsorship that you give 6 months warning so that alternative arrangements can be made for the child.

Do I pay the sponsorship fee every month – or may I pay quarterly or yearly?

You can pay however you would like – monthly, quarterly or yearly. You will simply write a check to one of our non-profit partners, in your respective country. Alternatively, you may set up a direct payment from your Bank Account. Please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. How are the children selected to be sponsored?

In most cases, school teachers select the orphans and vulnerable children who would be good candidates for sponsorship; based on the child’s school work, self-motivation, potential, and family support. Alternatively community leaders and our community staff identify vulnerable families whose children are best candidates for the sponsorship program. Most children are 8 or 9 years old when they are considered for sponsorship although sometimes other children are older.

May I write to my sponsored child, and will I receive a letter back?

This is the best part of sponsoring a child! You have the ability to email a letter and photographs to your sponsored child as often as you’d like. Postal service is very slow and insecure in Uganda and therefore all our correspondence is done via email. Tell your child about your family, the weather, and your hobbies and send family photos and pictures of where you live. Please don’t send pictures of your house or other possessions.

Email your letter and photos to Annette Mutaawe, the ACT Sponsorship Coordinator, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. She will print your letter and photos, give them directly to your child, who will write back to you in a timely fashion. If the sponsored child is still learning English, a translator will help, but the letter will be in your child’s words! This correspondence is a very important part of sponsorship – the children LOVE receiving your letters and, as part of your sponsorship, you are asked to communicate often, at least one letter a year to your sponsored child.  Your child will treasure your letters and photos!
